Chairman John Bowler spoke in depth about the sacking of Steve Holland today and said that the club are now looking for a proven manager to take the club forward.
The words couldn’t have been much sweeter for Alex fans. Having seen such a dramatic decline in the past four years through poor direction from the Directors, a fresh approach is widely welcomed.
It’s near enough universally accepted that Steve Holland wasn’t up to the job of managing the club and whilst we’ve had some great times under the current regime there is now a need and room for fresh, outside ideas.
Chairman John Bowler told crewealex.net that the board are now drawing up a shortlist but warned that the job isn’t for anyone learning the game or in it for the short term, ruling out the likes of former Alex men Craig Hignett & Neil Lennon.
‘As a board, we are looking for a proven and experienced manager. This is not a job for someone who is trying to learn the game and perhaps only in it for the short-term,’ Bowler said.
‘We have got to go an appoint the right man. That is the most important thing and there is no time scale on that. We are looking for someone who is prepared to come here and work in what we consider to be a special environment.
‘We’re not going to be hurried but we’re not going to let the grass grow under our feet. Next week we’ve got a file full of people to go through who have been attracted by the club and together we’ll decide who are the likely candidates and then start the interviewing process.
‘Steve was allowed to get on with it and for the next guy it will be the same. It’s a very special role and you can’t have people back seat driving.’
Bowler also confirmed that Steve Holland has been offered a chance to return to coaching at the club’s academy but says Holland has decided to take time off to think it over.
‘He has gone away to spend some time with his wife and his children to think things over. He is a very talented guy and we hope he will choose to come back here and work with us in an alternative role because we all respect him immensely.’
