Walton: “Nothing and no-one to be afraid of”

On-loan midfielder Simon Walton has been blunt in his admission that Crewe need to turn performances into points, after a second consecutive league defeat on Saturday, despite having a hatful of chances.

Walton will be the first to admit he has had problems in the past and it’s clear the young midfielder is not afriad to speak his mind. He told crewealex.net: ‘You don’t get points from performances you get points by winning games.’

Walton added: ‘Once we get one win then I think we’ll be on our way. We will keep going looking for that and hopefully it will come on Friday night. It’s a game we need something from, little gaps are already beginning to appear in the league and we need to make sure we stay up at the top end.

‘Winning can become habit, and that is the habit we need to get in to, we have nothing and no-one to be afraid of, we have to make sure we are up to the challenge.’

Walton also admitted, despite his relative young age at 22, that he has been passing on some words to his new team mates: ‘I said in the dressing room after the Aldershot game, that points do not come from putting in a good performance, we have to go out there and do what we have to do. We will get the chance to play good football once we have set out our stall and got on top of the game, which at the moment I don’t think is too far away.

‘If we had points for playing well, then the way we have been playing, I think we’d be top of the league, but at the end of the day, we need to put our chances away and that is the only way we are going to get points.’

Although he still looks shy of full match fitness, Walton, with his Premiership and Championship experience, could become a massive asset on and off the pitch as the club attempt to bounce back to League One.
