Crewe Alexandra could be priced out of a move for their former midfielder James Bailey.

The 25-year-old was released by Championship outfit Derby County this week and immediately linked with a possible return to Gresty Road.

However, the Railwaymen were also interested in Bailey last season but wages proved too high and a pay cut would have been necessary.

His former Rams boss Nigel Clough, now at Sheffield United, has also shown an interest in a player who made 55 appearances for the Alex until moving to Derby in a £1m joint transfer with defender John Brayford four years ago.
