Crewe boss Dario Gradi has moved quickly to rubbish reports that Luke Varney is leaving the club.

Recent rumours have suggested that Gareth Southgate has experienced an interest in Varney, who has scored 17 league goals this year. Whilst Dario admitted that he is already searching for the replacement for Varney, he is adamant that nobody has so far enquired about the availability of one of Crewe’s prized players.

Gradi said:

‘I’ve had no bids for any of my players…’

‘…The one who is probably going to attract the most speculation is Luke Varney, because he has scored a lot of goals for us this season.

‘If a sensible offer did come in for Luke and he felt he was ready for the next challenge then of course we would have to consider it. We are a selling club and need to invest in our players to make sure we can bring some money into the club to cover our costs.
