Unbeaten Run Continues Thanks To Goalkeeper…Although Not In That Way

|

Crewe Alexandra extended their unbeaten run at Under-23 level to 8 games thanks to 2 goals in second-half stoppage-time from Lewis Reilly and goalkeeper Dave Richards against a strong Sheffield Wednesday team at Reaseheath this afternoon.

Manager Alex Morris would name Richards in goal behind a back 4 of Travis Johnson, Billy Sass-Davies, Luke Offord and Kevin O’Connor. The four in midfield were Oliver Finney, Josh Lundstram, Tom Lowery and Joe Lynch with Reilly partnered by Owen Dale.

Wednesday took the lead just before the half-time interval with George Boyd scoring from the spot whilst they extended their lead with 20 minutes to play as full-back Ben Hughes scoring from the edge of the area. As the pressure was put on from the Alex team (something that needs to happen at first-team level), we got rewarded for it with 2 late corners. First, Reilly headed home from a corner in the 93rd minute before Richards, after getting Morris’ approval to join the attack, levelled a minute later as he turned the ball in from 6-yards.

The next game for Morris’ men is against Nottingham Forest at Reaseheath next Monday afternoon in the final game before Christmas for the U23s.
