|

Goals from Billy Sass-Davies, Mo Jatta, Calum Agius and Jack Parry saw Crewe Alexandra’s Under-21s defeat Colchester United this afternoon at the Alexandra Stadium.

Manager Michael Jackson named Tom Booth in goal behind a back 4 of Lewis Billington, captain Sass-Davies, Nathan Robinson and Charlie Finney. In midfield were Owen Lunt and Lewis Nolan while Parry, Agius and Jatta started behind Rhys Allport up front. On the bench were Luca Moore, Senior, Vincent, Leader-Williams and goalkeeper Travis Ziglam.

The opening goal was scored by the hosts midway in the opening period as Sass-Davies headed in a free-kick from Finney before the lead was doubled a couple of minutes before the break as a through-ball found Agius with his square-ball turned in by Jatta, sending goalkeeper * the wrong way.

The third goal came on 65 minutes as a Colchester corner was dealt with by the Alex defence with Allport freed down the left, he held the ball up before playing a pass to Agius who smashed the ball across the keeper into the bottom corner with the fourth goal coming a couple of minutes later as Agius would get his second assist of the game, finding Parry at the back post who scored at the second attempt.

The next couple of games at this level see the Alex travelling to Millwall a week tomorrow (Tues 5th Sept, 2:00 pm) before returning to the Alexandra Stadium to face Watford in a fortnight (Mon 11th Sept, 1:00 pm).
