Two Goals In 5 Minutes Settle CAFC Derby

First-half goals from Daillang Jaiyesimi and Jayden Stockley saw Charlton Athletic defeat Crewe Alexandra at the Valley yesterday afternoon, gaining their first league victory of the season.

Manager David Artell made two changes from Tuesday’s 3-0 defeat at Leeds United with Luke Offord (back from suspension) and Callum Ainley replacing Billy Sass-Davies and Southampton loanee Kayne Ramsay as the Alex returned to the normal 4-3-3 formation. Former Alex winger Charlie Kirk started for the hosts.

The opening chance of the game came in the 10th minute with Stockley unable to turn Adam Matthews’ long throw goalwards before the first Alex chance would see Offord head a Ben Knight cross over midway through the first period. The opening goal came in the 36th minute with Jaiyesimi heading home a cross from Chris Gunter before the second would come 5 minutes later with Stockley rounding Will Jaaskelainen to roll into an empty net.

Our next couple of games see the Alex travel to Shrewsbury Town in the EFL Trophy on Tuesday before traveling to the same opposition on Saturday 11th September in the league.

What can we take out of this game?

We are currently in a position where we are needing to bring in a few more players (depending on the status of Lowery and Dale in particular) ahead of Tuesday’s transfer deadline.

As far as the game itself is concerned, we couldn’t take advantage of the period in the first half where we were on top before they scored their opener.
