|

Alex Academy alumni Nicky Maynard has left recently promoted Bury and has signed for Mansfield Town whilst former Alex loanee Chris Stokes has also joined Stevenage. Maynard was out of contract this summer and turned down an extension to stay at Gigg Lane whilst Stokes gave 14 days notice to leave Bury and will join Stevenage subject to EFL approval.

Stokes, 28, is a left-back that started his career with Bolton Wanderers before spending spells at Crewe, Swindon Supermarine, Forest Green Rovers and Coventry City (initially on loan) with the Shakers signing him last summer. He joins fellow former Alex defender Ben Nugent at Broadhall Way.

Maynard, 32, is a striker who was top scorer for the Shakers last season as he scored 22 times in 41 appearances in all competitions. He started his career with the Alex before spells at Bristol City, West Ham United, Cardiff City, Wigan Athletic, MK Dons and Aberdeen.

News on the lengths of the deals for both players are not known at this time.
