Crewe Alexandra full-back Matt Tootle won’t allow transfer speculation to distract him during performances.

“I just want to keep us in the league this season” – Matt Tootle

The 23-year-old has been the subject of recent interest from Championship clubs Burnley and Blackburn Rovers.

Knowsley-born defender Tootle recently signed a new two-and-a-half-year deal with the Railwaymen – who are his only professional club to date.

“If it happens, it happens and great,” he told BBC Radio Stoke. “But until then I play for Crewe and I’m here to help.

“In the past we have won promotions and trophies, so I just want to keep us in the league this season,” Tootle added. “Maybe people do come to Crewe to get a move or whatever, but in my career to be fair I’ve been with Crewe all my life.”
