Former Alex left back Anthony Tonkin has joined Blue Square Premier team Forest Green Rovers after turning down an offer from Lincoln City.

Tonkin was released from Gresty Road lasty ear, three years after his £150,000 move from Stockport in 2003. Tonkin has spent the last 12 months at Yeovil Town but failed to make an impact at his boyhood club, and after numerous trials has opted to sign for Forest Green Rovers.

Forest Green manager Jim Harvey said of the signing: ‘Anthony is the vital piece of our jig saw as we prepare for the season ahead in the Blue Square Premier. His addition to our first rate squad fills the void caused by Kevin Nicholson moving on.’

Rovers are enjoying a successful pre-season so far, after their solid performance against us last week they followed it up by handing a 4-1 thrashing to Championship new boys Bristol City.
