Steve Holland spoke to the official site after the 2-0 defeat at Hereford and saying there’s ‘a bit to do’ may be a bit of an understatement.
It was just another dreadful away day for Crewe, with ‘star players’ like Joel Grant and Anthony Elding unable to put on a satisfactory performance.
Hereford had lost their previous three league games this season and whilst we have no right to win any game in any competition, to just fail so badly at Edgar Street isn’t good enough.
Steve Holland spoke to CreweAlex.net after the game but gave the usual excuses without shedding much light on exactly how we failed to make an impression on the game.
‘I told the players at half time that without playing as well as we can, an extra bit of quality in the final third could see us go on to win the game. They then scored a couple of minutes into the second half and it knocked us. It was a great strike from O’Leary that flew into the top corner.
‘If it wasn’t for me shouting at the players in the second half telling them what to do, then I don’t think some of them would have the slighest idea what to do. That isn’t a new problem for us because we do have some young and inexperienced players, especially in midfield but they have make a difference to their own performance. This has shown there is a bit to do.’
Holland now has to prepare the team to face Macclesfield on Tuesday night in the Johnstone’s Paint Trophy. Yesterday that looked like a training match for us, now you can’t be too sure. Typical Crewe. Still, it should offer Holland the chance to give the likes of Donaldson and Zola more of a run out, and hopefully a new defender or two too!
