Crewe are watching Warrington Town keeper Diego Bassanini, according to his interpreter. The Argentina stopper arrived in the country from Argentina’s Independiente last month, but due to the transfer window cannot sign for a football league club.

In the meantime Bassanini is playing for non-league outfit Warrington Town, but looks set to make the move into the Football League this summer, and holding an Italian passport means Bassanini doesn’t need a work permit.

The 21 year old measures in at a massive 6ft 8in and is already talking to league clubs about a move, and Crewe could be one of them as his interpreter Pablo Asensio explains.

‘We have given our word that the gaffer can count on Diego until the end of the season. We are talking to other clubs because they are really interested in Diego.

‘Teams like Sheffield United, Preston, Crewe and Tranmere are looking at him.’

Steve Holland has already signaled his intent to find a new number one after Ben Williams decided to wait on a new contract offer last week.
