Crewe Alexandra’s young prospect Max Clayton admits he must become more clinical in front of goal.

The teenager hasn’t scored for over a month since a Capital One Cup double against weekend opponents Hartlepool United was followed by a league winner at home to Coventry City.

As a result he was forced to accept only a role from the bench for the midweek home defeat to Oldham Athletic.

“I made a good start to the season but as a striker you are judged on your goals and I need to score more,” Clayton told Alex’s official website. “I think I have played relatively well but I need to be scoring more goals.

“I need to be more ruthless,” he admitted. “I am sure when I get one and the other lads start scoring again then we will be fine and push on.”
