Taylor to Tranmere

Out-of-contract striker Gareth Taylor has signed a two-year deal with Tranmere Rovers. The 33-year old spent the latter parts of last season on loan at Gresty Road, and indicated his preference to remain at the club, but only if a two-year deal was forthcoming.

Tranmere boss Ronnie Moore appears to be a fan of Taylor, having tried to sign him for Oldham earlier in the summer.

Taylor becomes the 15th player to leave recently-relegated Crewe this summer. The South Cheshire club now have Luke Varney, Michael Higdon, Luke Rodgers and Ryan Lowe in the forward positions, though the likes of Nicky Maynard and perhaps even Mat Bailey are expected to be given more of a look in this season.

Dario has already stated that he doesn’t feel the need to replace Taylor or Johnson, but is instead keen to give the likes of Higdon, Rodgers, Maynard and Varney greater first team opportunities. Dario has, however, reaffirmed his desire for a ‘young Duncan Ferguson’, though admits the search is a difficult one as virtually every club is on the look-out for that type of striker. Head Scout Glyn Chamberlain continues to search at home and abroad for a striker, a left back and a centre back, though it appears unlikely that a striker will be signed before Northampton’s visit on August 5th.
