Taylor: I Want Two Years

33-year old Gareth Taylor is reluctant to sign Crewe’s offer of a one-year deal as he aims to win a longer contract. Three other League One clubs have offered Taylor a two-year deal, though all of those clubs involve a longer commute from Taylor’s Knutsford based family home.

Taylor’s PFA representative Phil Sproson confirmed Taylor’s preference to remain at Crewe, ‘The distance involved with other clubs is still a factor and there’s no doubt had Crewe offered him two years he’d have signed by now. I’m at a loss really to understand it. We have dropped everything, as have Crewe to be fair, but the second year is still the stumbling block.’

Taylor’s reluctance to sign the current deal offered will bemuse Dario, after Taylor had recently told Dario that he would sign. However, Taylor has since gone on holiday and it appears he may have changed his mind as a result of Crewe’s recent signings. 34 year old Neil Cox was handed a 2-year contract, whilst 27-year old Julien Baudet was given a 3-year contract.

A similar situation occurred with Colin Murdock this time last year. The defender was holding out for a two-year deal having been offered just one year by Crewe. Crewe eventually agreed to offer him two-years which Murdock was set to sign. However, as he was driving to the training ground, he changed his mind and asked to be offered one year again. Crewe organised for a one-year contract to be produced, only for Murdock to have another change of heart. Rotherham had offered him a two-year deal on bigger money, enticing him to Millmoor instead.
