Steve Davis will resume his search for a new left back & big striker in the January transfer window.

Davis only had two weeks between his appointment and the loan window closing last month to secure the players he wanted, ultimately failing.

In the end Davis brought in the impressive midfielder Jamie Lowry from Chesterfield as well as Burnley striker Wes Fletcher, who isn’t particularly the target man Davis was hoping for.

A target man has always been top of Davis’ priorities with the Alex lacking any sort of physical presence up front and a move for Doncaster’s Chris Brown last month fell through at the last minute due to Brown’s fitness.

Davis has also stated the need for a left back to ‘balance’ the team having seen right backs Matt Tootle and Carl Martin fill in the position so far this season.

In my opinion, I think the club needs to pull out all the stops to bring in the right striker. It is pretty evident both on match day and just in the GF column how much we struggle to get the ball up front.

We’ve faced some pretty decent strikers this season, including the likes of Akinfenwa and good old Calvin Zola, and we can only dream of what effect they would have in our team. I think it could be a season defining signing.
