Crewe have, as expected, failed to secure the services of Aston Villa’s Stephen O’Halloran on loan.
Steve Holland made an offer to take the young left back on a short term loan, admitting that it was ambitious as the player had plenty of other options.
Holland later confirmed on Friday that any deal looked dead as he had not heard from O’Halloran, and today the Irish defender joined Southampton on a month’s loan.
Holland though is continuing his search for left back cover, with further enquiries being made. There are also rumours of a swoop for Grimsby Town’s full back Tom Newey, of whom Crewe are known long term admirers.
