Swansea City have been told they won’t be getting Crewe Alexandra skipper Ashley Westwood on the cheap.

“I will be happy when the window closes and hopefully we have everyone still with us” – Steve Davis

The Premier League club were hoping to snap up the 22-year-old before the transfer window finally closes at 11pm tomorrow evening.

However, with a bid believed to be in place of £500,000 the South Wales club are currently well short of the kind of figure they are likely to require to prise Westwood away from Gresty Road. The Alex value their highly-rated midfielder much closer to the £2m mark.

“We’ve had a couple of inquiries about Ashley and I’ve had a chat with him because I think the speculation has been unsettling and affected his performance a little at Brentford,” Crewe manager Steve Davis told This is Staffordshire. “He responded with his usual performance at West Ham. I will be happy when the window closes and hopefully we have everyone still with us.”
