Surprise omission from England U17 squad

Ahead of the annual Algarve Tournament, England U17 manager John Peacock announced his 20-man squad that will make the trip to Portugal.

Crewe Alexandra are, once again, the only League Two side to be represented in the team with both goalkeeper Ben Garrett and striker Max Clayton making the cut.

Surprisingly there is no space for Nick Powell in the team despite his impressive performances for England. Then again, having made 14 substitute appearances for Crewe this season, perhaps he could find himself called upon for his first senior start due to the currently depleted front line.

Both Garrett and Clayton are on the fringes of the first team but neither have yet made their senior debuts for the club.

England U17 take on Romania, Germany and Portugal and will be looking to retain the title after they won the tournament last year.
