Sturrock Targets Crewe Shut Out

Southend boss Paul Sturrock knows the key to beating the Alex… stop us scoring. As top scorers in the entire Football League, there seems to be little anyone can do to halt our free scoring form which has seen us net 12 in three games. It’s a shame we’re also currently conceding for fun also.

Sturrock has told his defence to remain solid for tomorrow’s game at Roots Hall, telling the Essex Echo:

“Crewe are a side who have been scoring goals and that does concern me.

“They head out to attack and just score more than the opposition and that`s why we need to be nice and steady at the back.

“We need to be more ruthless and clinical,

“I don`t want to be getting pats on the back for playing well and losing, I want to be winning matches and be proud of how my team are playing.”

It’s fair to say that if Sturrock gets his defensive tactics right tomorrow then he could well be on to a winner. It doesn’t really seem to take much to frustrate this Crewe side, despite our goals; if the opposition nullify the pace of the forwards and give Bell and Westy little time on the ball then our plans can go to pot.

Mind you, if he gets it ever so slightly wrong then then we will get goals and plenty of them.
