A second-half goal from Mika Mandron, his tenth of the season, saw Crewe Alexandra move to within 4 points of the play-offs after a victory against Doncaster Rovers at the Alexandra Stadium last night.
Manager David Artell made two changes from Saturday’s 3-0 defeat at Lincoln City as Owen Dale and Mandron replaced Stephen Walker and Chris Porter as we returned to the 4-3-3 formation, both Porter and Walker dropped down to the bench.
The opening chance of the game came in the 14th minute with Dave Richards denying Reece James before the visitors’ had the ball in the net a couple of minutes later after an inswinging corner was attacked by a Donny player who was adjudged to have fouled Richards. The first Alex chance came in the 20th minute as we got in down the left with Charlie Kirk’s cross just evading Luke Murphy at the back post before Harry Pickering had a shot that was deflected wide midway through the half.
The visitors almost took the lead just after the break but Richards denied James Coppinger before Omar Beckles had a header tipped over by Louis Jones from a Tom Lowery corner in the 55th minute. The hosts would lead a minute later with Kirk playing in Mandron who finished from 12 yards out before Donny substitute Cameron John having an effort saved by Richards.
The next games for the Alex see us host Burton Albion on Saturday before a trip to Northampton Town the following Saturday.
What can we take out of this game?
Back to the normal 4-3-3 formation and a back to winning ways. Adebisi has really grown into the right-back role in the last few games and going off his performances there, then he could be a decent long-term replacement for Pickering at left-back (assuming he can get over the injury problems that he’s had so far in his career).
