Striker’s First Alex League Goal Not Enough For Victory

|

Omar Bogle’s first league goal for Crewe Alexandra saw the club pick up a point away at the Bescot Stadium against Walsall with Nathan Lowe equalising late on for the hosts.

Manager Lee Bell made 4 changes from last Saturday’s 1-0 home defeat against Dagenham & Redbridge as Ryan Cooney, Zac Williams, Matus Holicek and Bogle came into the team for James Connolly, Owen Lunt, Adrien Thibaut (who all dropped down to the bench) and Lewis Billington. Former Alex defender Donervon Daniels captained the hosts as part of their defence.

The opening chance came in the 6th minute as Bogle found strike partner Shilow Tracey who missed the target with a shot across the goal before Walsall wing-back Connor Barrett dragging his effort wide 20 minutes later from a corner. Jamille Matt would head wide on 33 minutes before the hosts had the ball in the net a couple of minutes later but that was disallowed for a foul on Alex skipper Mickey Demetriou with Bogle heading wide a couple of minutes prior to the break from Max Conway’s left-sided cross.

The second half saw left wing-back Liam Gordon shoot wide a couple of minutes after the break from outside the area before the Alex took the lead on 66 minutes with Bogle, Tracey and Holicek combining with the Slovakian midfielder playing the ball through for Bogle to get in behind and curl the ball into the net of the base of the post.

Walsall levelled the score 5 minutes from time as the ball was played into the channel by George Hall allowing Lowe to get in behind with the on-loan Stoke City striker smashing the ball into the net via the underside of the crossbar as the teams shared the points.

The next games for the Alex see them host Notts County next Saturday before travel to Port Vale a fortnight tomorrow.

Final Thoughts:

That was a point that we certainly would have taken going into the game though we it took a really nice move for Walsall to equalise which saw both teams get the point I felt they deserved out of the game – both goals in the game coming in a similar way with through-balls playing in the striker to score off the woodwork.
