Crewe Alexandra manager Steve Davis admits that young forward Max Clayton is unlikely to sign a new deal.

“I would say it is unlikely he will extend his contract” – Steve Davis

The eighteen-year-old prospect has already turned down an improved offer and Davis has conceded it’s appearing increasingly unlikely the teenager will commit to the club beyond this season.

“I have met with Max`s agent and we are really no further in regards to him re-signing,” Davis confirmed to Crewe’s official website. “I would say it is unlikely he will extend his contract.

“There are options available to us as a club,” he continued. “He is our player and there would have to be a compensation package if he was to go next summer.”

England Under-19 international Clayton made 42 appearances for the Alex last season while scoring nine times.
