Crewe Alexandra striker Mathias Pogba has undergone surgery on a torn thigh muscle.

“We are sure he will be fine and will return for pre-season training” – Steve Davis

The 22-year-old former Wrexham marksman had the operation in Italy but was expected to recover in time for the start of pre-season training at the end of June.

Pogba suffered the injury against Preston North End on Easter Monday and was subsequently ruled out for the rest of the campaign having already scored sixteen goals in 41 appearances.

“Mathias suffered a grade two tear in his thigh and he and his agents wanted him to have surgery in Italy with a specialist,” manager Steve Davis told Crewe’s official website. “We were fine with that and he has had that now.

“He will return to Italy shortly to undergo more rehab with the surgeon who conducted the operation,” he added. “Mathias is on a crutch at the moment but we are sure he will be fine and will return for pre-season training on schedule.”
