Crewe Alexandra have taken former West Bromwich Albion and Wigan Athletic striker Nathan Ellington on trial.

“I’ve made it clear that I cannot promise him anything” – Steve Davis

The 31-year-old is currently a free agent after being released by Ipswich Town and has spent the past week training with the Railwaymen.

That follows Manchester-based Ellington putting in a request to the club to use their facilities whilst being checked out by manager Steve Davis.

“He is 31 and sometimes players don’t reach that absolute peak until that age,” Davis explained to Crewe’s official website. “I am sure he is still feeling young and we will have a look at him. I’ve made it clear that I cannot promise him anything but we will see what type of form he is in.”
