Porter Signs New 12-Month Deal

|

Crewe Alexandra have confirmed that striker Chris Porter has extended his contract with the club for an initial 12 months.

Porter, 36, has been with the club for the past 3 seasons since moving from Colchester United and has been a key member of the squad and has made over 100 appearances in all competitions, scoring 41 goals. He has also played for Bury, Oldham Athletic, Motherwell, Derby County, Sheffield United, Shrewsbury Town, Chesterfield and Colchester in his career.

How important is this extension?

Having senior pros like Porter (as well as Hunt and Green who have recently departed the squad) is perfect to offer their experiences on and off the pitch to the younger players. While he’s not getting any younger, he’s a different type of player compared to new signing Offrande Zanzala, who joined the club on Wednesday afternoon going off the videos that are available of the Congolese forward and having different types of central forwards could give Artell options to change the way that we play in certain games, whether that’s in the same 4-3-3 system that we currently play or by changing the system.
