Steve Davis has told son Harry that he will only be considered for a starting place in the middle of defence.

“We have three centre-halves going for the two places and it is the same up front and at full-back” – Steve Davis

The 20-year-old actually appeared at full-back for much of last season but is currently settled alongside summer arrival Mark Ellis in the centre of the Alex back four.

Manager Davis now expects the three centre-backs within his squad to compete for the two starting roles. Agam Dugdale recently lost his place following a stomach bug.

“I have spoken to Harry and told him that I will only be considering him as a centre-half,” Davis told Crewe’s official website. “I have played him at full-back in the past and that was to help us out and for him to get the experience of playing games last season.

“At the moment we have three centre-halves going for the two places and it is the same up front and at full-back,” he added. “That is what I wanted to create.”
