Still Searching For Number One

The club are still on the search for a number one keeper despite securing Adam Legzdins today.

Steve Holland confirmed that Legzdins has signed to be understudy to a future number one but admits that the search is still ongoing for that elusive shot stopper.

The club has already been snubbed by the likes of Steve Mildenhall and Greg Fleming and the frustrating search may force Holland into the loan market at a later date.

Speaking to crewealex.net, Holland said: ‘We are still after an experienced keeper. That could be on a permanent basis or on a long-term deal. We have made some progress on that and remain hopeful of something happening there.’

Meanwhile, the club are still waiting for a definitive decision from young keeper Owain Fon Williams. The Wales U-21 star is still yet to confirm his plans for the future. The keeper’s contract is set to expire and all signs point to Fon rejecting the offer of a new deal, and the chance to be first choice between the sticks next season.

Why the the two keepers you had last season rejected contracts? Interested as Lincoln have been linked with both (only internet rumours)

Ben, not sure. Was offered a fantastic 3 year deal here but he didn’t want it. think he just genuinely wants a change of scenery. Owain Fon’s been treated badly by the club in that he hasn’t had a game when we’ve been conceding 80 a season and he’s been linked to the Premiership. Not rejected it yet; don’t think he has the offers he was expecting.
