Danny Smith played in England U-17’s final group game of the Nordic Tournament today but England were left disappointed as they slipped to a 2-1 defeat against Iceland.

The England youngsters needed just a draw to win their group, having beaten Faroe Islands and drawn with Norway this week, but quick fire goals from Iceland in the second half pretty much extinguished hopes. England pulled a goal back through Arsenal’s Chuba Akpom with 10 minutes left but couldn’t find the equaliser.

Academy midfielder Danny Smith started the game, meaning he’s seen action in all three of England’s Nordic Tournament games this month.

The England youngsters still have one game to play on Sunday afternoon, facing either Sweden, Denmark, Finland or a second Iceland team from the other groups.

Meanwhile, Smith hasn’t received a call up to John Peacock’s England U-17s for the Under-17 Tournament later this month. England are due to play Italy, Czech Republic and Portual at the end of the month at Cambridge, Bishop’s Stortford and Northampton respectively.
