Ashley Westwood was always the obvious choice as skipper says Crewe Alexandra manager Steve Davis.

“For me he was an obvious choice because he leads by example” – Steve Davis

The 22-year-old has deservedly been rewarded for his outstanding displays by being named as successor to former captain David Artell, who was released by the club at the end of last season.

Westwood has previous experience leading the side when sharing duties with Lee Bell as an understudy to Artell at Gresty Road. He is currently contracted to the club until 2014.

“For me he was an obvious choice because he leads by example in his performances and the way he conducts himself around the training ground,” Davis told Crewe’s official website. “His attitude to training is always spot-on whatever the weather or day of the week, he is a good role model.”
