Manager Steve Davis still expects skipper Luke Murphy to sign a new deal with Crewe Alexandra.

The 22-year-old midfielder is yet to commit his future to the club although Davis remains encouraged by the talks so far held.

Murphy has been offered new terms and it is hoped he will finally sign on again at Gresty Road within the next week.

Having successfully progressed through the club’s famed Academy, the highly-rated Murphy is closing in on 150 senior appearances for the Alex and was recently appointed captain following the departure of Ashley Westwood to Aston Villa.
