Crewe Alexandra are expected to welcome back skipper Luke Murphy for their weekend visit to Preston North End.

“It has settled down and I am sure he will be fine” – Steve Davis

Winger Byron Moore and central defender Mark Ellis should also return after the trio were rested for the midweek Johnstone’s Paint Trophy victory against Doncaster Rovers.

But goalkeeper Steve Phillips picked up a sore ankle on his first appearance of the season and appears likely to be replaced by Alan Martin.

Otherwise, centre-back Harry Davis should be able to shake-off a bruised shin collected in midweek.

“Murph did have a bit of tight groin in the build-up to the game, so we chose to give him a rest,” manager Steve Davis confirmed to Crewe’s official website. “It has settled down and I am sure he will be fine.

“He has returned to training with no ill-effects, so that is encouraging,” he continued. “We also gave Mark and Byron a bit of rest and I think that will be important with the amount of games we have coming up.”
