Six Players Agree New Deals

|

Crewe Alexandra have announced that six players have signed new deals with the club as a number of players that were offered contracts during the retention period.

Goalkeepers Will Jaaskelainen (who had a year left on his previous deal) and Dave Richards have both signed 2-year deals while Travis Johnson and Regan Griffiths have both signed new 12-month deals as well as first-year professionals Tyreece Onyeka and Nathan Woodthorpe.

Johnson, 19, is a right-back who has made 3 appearances for the club in all competition so far since making his debut in the EFL Trophy against Mansfield last October and will hopefully spend some of next season out on loan (he was set to join Northern Premier League side Witton Albion just before football stopped) to gain some experience so he has a better chance of playing for the first team.

Griffiths, 20, is a central midfielder who has also played as a wide midfielder and as a false 9 for Alex Morris’ Under-23 team but has yet to make his first-team debut. He spent 6 weeks at Kidsgrove before football had stopped and is another that will benefit from playing senior football in non-league.

Onyeka and Woodthorpe, both 18, have signed their first pro deals. Onyeka is a forward who can play both centrally and out wide that has been a regular for the Under-23 side while Woodthorpe is a left-back who can also play further forward with him looking to be a regular at Under-23 level, battling with Rio Adebisi to play at left-back in that team.
