Trialist Lewis Short has been offered a one year deal with the club after impressing.
The Congleton Town midfielder has spent the last few weeks on trial with the club, after being found by coach Neil Baker, in the hope of earning the contract. Playing in a few pre season friendlies, the 20 year old scored in the 8-1 win at Lancaster City last month.
Speaking to crewealex.net, Dario said that Short will not be walking into the first team but could well progress to that level over the course of the season:
‘He is not ready to play in the team at the moment but he could be during the 12-months.
‘He is a lefty, has a good left foot and good ability. We think there is something to work on with him and he is another young player we think could become a player.’
Despite not being under contract at Congleton, the Alex will still be offering the non-league side a compensation package.
Meanwhile, fellow trialist Danny Maguire could be set to join the Glenn Hoddle Academy in Spain. The former QPR midfielder has been training with the Alex for the summer having spent a year out of the game through injury.
Whilst Dario says Maguire is more than welcome to stay, he admits that he has no plans to offer him a deal as of yet and would have no problem seeing him join the Academy.
