Crewe Alexandra have announced the signing of South African midfielder Khanya Leshabela, who joins the club on loan from Premier League club Leicester City until January.
Leshabela, 22, has come through the academy set-up of the Foxes, making his Premier League debut in March 2021 in a 5-0 win against Sheffield United before spending the first half of last season on loan at Shrewsbury Town where he only made 3 appearances for the Shrews.
He has also represented South Africa at Under-20 level during the year 2019.

Looking at his TransferMarkt profile, he’s a central midfielder who can also play as a defensive or even as an attacking midfielder if necessary who is looking to gain first-team experience after being a regular in Leicester’s Under-18 and -23 teams in recent years.
He only played for Shrewsbury for 85 minutes across his 3 appearances (58 minutes of which was in a win at home to Charlton Athletic) – it’ll be interesting to see whether he’ll be a first-choice in the Alex midfield or whether he’ll have to wait for his chance in our side.
