Season Ends With Late Collapse At Lincoln

Two goals in the final 12 minutes saw Lincoln City defeat Crewe Alexandra in the final league game of the season, despite Chris Long giving the visitors a first-half lead.

Manager Alex Morris made 2 changes to the starting 11 from last Saturday’s 1-1 home draw against Ipswich Town with midfielders Rekeem Harper and Oli Finney returning while Luke Murphy and Zac Williams dropping down to the bench and not in the matchday squad respectively.

The opening chance came in the 5th minute with Long forcing Jordan Wright into a save before Man City loanee Lewis Fiorini would test Dave Richards at the other end a couple of minutes later from a free-kick. The young Scottish midfielder would try to chip Richards on 17 minutes before the visitors took the lead 4 minutes later with Callum Ainley’s through-ball finished by Long from just outside the 6-yard box.

The second half would start with Tom Lowery hitting the post with Mandron also having an effort saved by Wright. Richards would deny John Marquis on 56 minutes before Oli Finney would miss a few chances. The hosts would level with 11 minutes to play as substitute Tom Hopper would head in a corner before fellow sub Adelakun would score the winner in the final minute of the game.

The fixtures for next season’s League 2 campaign are released in late June.

What can we take out of this game?

Let’s move on and look forward to next season, the retained list is likely going to be out this upcoming week (we already know one name that is officially leaving with social media posts alluding to at least one more name that will be leaving).
