Scholars Represent National Teams

Crewe Alexandra scholars Matus Holicek, Connor O’Riordan and Zac Williams had been called up for their countries in the latest international window.

Defender O’Riordan represented the Republic of Ireland’s Under-20s side in their 1-0 defeat against the Ireland Amateurs last Tuesday night at Home Farm FC. It was the first time that he had represented Ireland and had been looking to impress manager Jim Crawford who also manages their Under-21 side.

Midfielder Holicek, a first-year scholar, was called up to Slovakia’s Under-17s and would add to his 3 appearances in their UEFA European Under-17 qualifying campaign. He would come on as a 73rd-minute sub in their 1-1 draw against Greece, played 94 mins in their 1-1 draw against the Netherlands before playing the first 82 mins in their 3-1 defeat against Hungary this afternoon.

Defender Williams was looking to add to his 2 caps for the Welsh Under-18s but was not involved on Friday in their 4-2 win nor in their 2-2 draw yesterday, both against Finland at Colliers Park, Wrexham.
