Steve Holland says he simply doesn’t need the former Alex man as Robbie Savage looks set to sign on loan for Brighton.

Despite much speculation, Steve Holland has turned down the chance to re-sign Savage. Holland’s assistant Neil Baker told thisisstaffordshire.co.uk that the Derby midfielder’s wages wouldn’t have been a problem, but he didn’t feel there was any space for Savage in the team: ‘We’ve got to look at what we’ve already got in midfield. James Bailey and Michael O’Connor are doing well, and if we bring in another midfielder it will be a message to them that they are not.

‘I don’t think wages were going to be a problem with a loan deal for Robbie, but if he came here he would want to play games and that would mean leaving others out.’

The lack of interest from the Alex gives League One rivals Brighton & Hove Albion the chance to swoop and it’s been confirmed that Sav is now expected to take up their loan offer on Wednesday.
