Crewe have seemingly turned down the chance to bring Derby County’s Robbie Savage back to Gresty Road but still hold hopes to complete a deal for Swansea’s Dennis Lawrence.

Several national newspapers have claimed recently that Savage was in line for a surprise return to Gresty Road, over a decade after leaving for Leicester City. Being an outcast at Derby, County manager Paul Jewell is looking for any takers.

However, with Derby reportedly looking for Savage’s new club to pay a third of his reported £22-28k wages for the duration of the loan period it looks as if the queue for the midfielder will be a short one.

Brighton have confirmed their interest and are still waiting for an answer from Savage whilst Port Vale also enquired but are thought to have been put off (obviously) by the money side of the deal. It seems a similar story with the Alex, having seen big money loan deals fail recently you can’t blame Steve Holland for being cautious.

It’s not all bad news on the transfer front however. Swansea’s Dennis Lawrence has reportedly been talking over a proposed loan move to the Alex today. The 34 year old defender is being sought to help Crewe’s defensive woes and is expected to complete the temporary move some time this week.
