Despite their recent move up the league assistant-manager Neil Baker reminded that safety remains the absolute priority at Crewe Alexandra.

“We’re still short of the 50-point mark. Only once we get there can we reassess and adjust our sights” – Neil Baker

The Alex are sitting nicely in an exact mid-table position following last weekend’s excellent 3-1 victory over Preston North End at Deepdale.

But while their current 30-point haul probably leaves them ahead of their original schedule, Baker insists the safety aspect still kicks in first.

“We are probably ahead of where we thought we might be at this stage, but we’re still short of the 50-point mark,” he told This is Staffordshire. “Only once we get there can we reassess and adjust our sights.

“We did very well last month in particular, taking out the disappointing FA Cup defeat to Burton, but December and January could yet be as difficult as November was good,” Baker continued. “We have got ourselves into a decent position, but it only takes two or three defeats to be looking over your shoulder again.”
