Crewe have decided to appeal the red card given to Gary Roberts at the weekend. Roberts was sent off for a two footed ‘hop’ on Bristol City’s Louis Carey, though the unpunished Carey had lunged in with two feet as well. With injuries to Billy Jones, Lee Bell, Tony Grant, Michael O’Connor, and a slight knock for David Vaughan, Crewe are relying on the FA overturning Phil Crossley’s decision.

Our chances of a successful appeal may have been helped by Bristol City manager Gary Johnson, and the victim of Roberts’ ‘hop’ – Louis Carey. Carey said, ‘Both of us when in two-footed so I think it’s a bit harsh that their lad was sent off.’ Meanwhile, Johnson admitted that he was ‘surprised to see the red card come out for [Roberts].’
