Gary Roberts has returned to training, vowing to fight for his place after 8 months of spats.

The last year has seen the academy graduate disciplined twice by the club, transfer listed and refused to turn up for training. The 21 year old has been looking for an exit from Crewe all summer but with Cardiff City, the only club to show interest, ending their pursuit early Roberts has been left out in the cold.

Steve Holland has previously urged the midfielder to re-think in order to save his promising career and it looks like Roberts has listened. Speaking to crewealex.net, the official club website, Holland said that Roberts had ‘pledged his allegiance to us’ and was ready to get his head down and work…

Holland said: ‘I’ve spoken to Gary and he has pledged his allegiance to us. He went onto the transfer list because he decided against travelling to Bulgaria and has missed a number of training sessions throughout the summer.

‘He has admitted that he has made some mistakes and has told us that he wants to get his head down and fight for his place.’

Now Roberts has returned he has been given shirt number 25, having previously been omitted from the squad list.
