Crewe Alexandra remain outside the relegation zone following a scoreless draw with fellow strugglers Crawley Town at Gresty Road.

On loan midfielder Jamie Ness saw a driven attempt parried by veteran goalkeeper Brian Jensen during the opening half and top scorer Izale McLeod hoisted over at the other end.

The visitors threatened again at the start of the second period with full-back Lanre Oyebanjo drilling narrowly wide before substitute Ryan Colclough replied across goal.

Ness then landed a first-time shot onto the roof of the net but as the away side went forward, Gavin Tomlin struck wide and McLeod could only find the clutches of Paul Rachubka.

The Crewe keeper duly dealt with further efforts from both Tomlin and McLeod before Richard Wood went even closer when having a late header blocked on the line by Anthony Grant.

Home midfielder Grant collected his tenth caution of the season during the game and now faces a two-match ban – missing forthcoming meetings with Chesterfield and Leyton Orient.
