Substitute Vadaine Oliver rescued a point with an equaliser thirteen minutes from time as Crewe Alexandra shared a 1-1 draw with Swindon Town at Gresty Road.

Chuks Aneke had already missed from the penalty spot by the time Ryan Harley earned the visitors an early second-half lead. Aneke curled a reply against the woodwork before Oliver spectacularly levelled from distance.

Latest signing Cameron Park was included on the bench but he made an early introduction when Brad Inman picked up a knock midway through the opening half.

Aneke sliced an early effort behind and Nathan Byrne replied over the target before recalled goalkeeper Ben Garratt blocked with his feet from Michael Smith.

Massimo Luongo then missed with a header and Nathan Thompson struck wide as the visitors continued to get on top.

Further efforts followed from both Harley and Smith until Matt Tootle’s cross caught the arm of Harley inside his own area. However, Aneke lifted over from the penalty spot.

That looked even more serious when Byrne set-up Harley for an excellent finish into the top corner shortly after the break.

The busy Luongo then glanced the crossbar and Garratt smothered from Smith as the visitors appeared more likely to add to their tally.

Crewe made their final change with Oliver replacing Mathias Pogba, although it was Aneke denied by a great stop from Tyrell Belford following a Harry Davis free-kick. Aneke then found himself once more thwarted, this time by the woodwork after good work by earlier substitute Billy Waters.

The Alex were though rewarded when Oliver powered his way onto a long ball and volleyed superbly past Belford for only his second goal for the club.

Both sides had later efforts blocked while Waters almost got onto a deep cross from home debutant Park before the end.
