Released midfielder Mark Carrington has joined League One MK Dons on a two year contract today.

Carrington, a product of the youth academy, left the Alex after three years as a professional at the Railwaymen. After signing professional terms in 2006 Carrington had since failed to hold down a regular place in the Alex side under Dario, Steve Holland and Gudjon Thordarson.

He made 29 league appearances for Crewe and seemed to impress the majority of the Alex faithful when playing, but ultimately he failed to impress new manager Gudjon Thordarson and his contract wasn’t renewed this summer.

He joins former team mate Danny Woodards at stadium:mk for the new season; Woodards signed for MK earlier in the summer after turning down a new contract at Crewe.

Meanwhile former keeper Stuart Tomlinson looks set to sign for Port Vale whilst ex-defender Chris McCready could make the surprise move to Charlton. Former right back George Abbey also appears to be impressing at Tranmere Rovers.

It could well be that those not deemed good enough by Gudjon could next season be facing us or, as in Carrington’s case, be playing at a higher level.
