Manager Steve Davis was surprised by on loan midfielder Adam King’s recall to Swansea City.

The 20-year-old Scot netted five goals in 26 games for the Alex and Davis fully expected the arrangement to be extended beyond the 5th January expiry date.

“I was surprised to see Adam be recalled by Swansea because we presumed that his loan would be extended,” Davis admitted to Crewe’s official website. “He is Swansea’s player and that can happen with the loan system.

“We thought we would be able to keep him but him going back will give others a chance,” he continued. “We have enough cover in midfield with the four we have and then we can bring in Ryan Wintle, Callum Ainley or bring in another winger, so we are okay. It was a good loan for us and Adam is a top lad.”
