Crewe Alexandra are five points adrift at the bottom of the table following their 3-0 defeat at Peterborough United.

Harry Beautyman struck twice before the break for the home side and Lee Angol added a third goal midway through the second period.

Midfielder Beautyman opened the scoring on fourteen minutes when curling high into the net at a short corner.

He added his second just before the interval after Ben Garratt had already denied Aaron Williams’ header following Michael Smith’s cross.

Angol duly increased the home advantage with a powerful drive from Marcus Maddison’s 67th minute assist. Maddison had earlier struck an upright

Alex keeper Garratt later superbly thwarted Beautyman his hat-trick and also twice frustrated the influential Maddison.

Meanwhile, Charlie Kirk (twice) and substitute Jamie Jones had seen efforts at the other end.
