Youngster Nick Powell scored a last minute free kick against the Aussie’s last night as an England U-17’s side that featured three Alex players strolled to victory.

Goalkeeper Ben Garratt played the entire game at Grimsby Town’s Blundell Park and, on his England debut, kept a fine clean sheet. Nick Powell and Max Clayton settled for a place on the bench having started against Turkey on Wednesday.

Clayton and Powell were however introduced at half time with England already 2-0 up and after Liverpool’s Raheem Sterling notched up England’s third just after the break, a splendid curling free-kick from Powell in the final moments sealed a convincing scoreline.

The young lions now face Portugal tomorrow afternoon at Scunthorpe United in the final game of the friendly U-17 tournament.
