A first-half goal from Joe Piggott was enough for Wigan Athletic to defeat Crewe Alexandra in the Under-23 Professional Development League at Reaseheath this afternoon.

Manager Alex Morris was named Dave Richards in goal as captain with a back 4 of Travis Johnson, Josh Lundstram, Billy Sass-Davies and Luke Offord in front of him. In central midfield were James Jones and Regan Griffiths with Daniel Powell and Callum Ainley played wide while Connor Heath playing behind Chuma Anene up front. On the bench were goalkeeper Sam Booth, Aaron Lomas, Kyle Stubbs and Jamie Wrench.

The goal came 7 minutes from the break with Piggott scoring from close range at the second attempt following a cross from the left.

The next couple of games for the Under-23s sees a home game against Hull City at Reaseheath next Monday before the team take a break until after the New Year when we travel to Sheffield Wednesday on Monday 6th January.
