Loan keeper Steve Phillips has undergone the knife this week to combat a troublesome shoulder injury.

The experienced shot stopper had played much of his six month spell at the club with the injury before finally being allowed to rest last month as Adam Legzdins was given a chance between the sticks.

The operation will hopefully sort out his left shoulder whilst he will also be undergoing rehabilitation on his right should.

The question that now remains is Phillips’s future. With his contract up at Bristol Rovers in the summer Dario is hoping to sign the 31 year old up on a permanent deal soon. Phillips has previously turned down a 2 and a half year deal at Gresty Road in January after being unable to come to an agreement with Rovers over his release.

Despite Phillips seemingly happy to stay and Dario confident a deal will be struck, the experienced manager knows all too well to be cautious when signing players.

Dario told the Crewe Chronicle:

“That is Phillips finished with us now but hopefully, if things can be sorted out with Bristol Rovers, we could welcome him back next season as our player. We`ll have to see what happens because nothing is ever definite until it is done.”
